Goal of the Position:

To represent the Cambridge Food Bank in charitable gaming which provides vital revenue for the food bank

Position Responsibilities:

• Call out winning bingo numbers

• Keep gaming areas tidy for players by picking up garbage and discarding used drink cups

Working Conditions:

• You'll be inside a bingo hall which is bright and cheery

• This position requires standing and walking for the entire shift

Qualifications:

• Must be over the age of 18 years

• Ability to follow directions from bingo hall staff

• Must be friendly and welcoming

Other Requirements:

• Closed-toed shoes are required

• Dress code in place. Wear business casual pants (no jeans/yoga/athletic pants) and volunteer shirts which are provided by the Cambridge Food Bank

Training & Supervision

• A 20-minute online training is required.  A link will be sent once your volunteer position is confirmed for the position 

• Training and supervision will be ongoing and provided by the Bingo Hall staff

Goal of the Position:

To pick up donated food from partner businesses such as grocery stores on weekday mornings or afternoons.

Position Responsibilities:

Receive donations from retailers and deliver them back to the food bank. Be a good ambassador for the Cambridge Food Bank

Working Conditions:

This position requires driving sitting and lifting in all weather conditions

Qualifications:

Must have a valid G license with a clean drivers abstract Comfortable driving a cargo van

Other Requirements:

Volunteers must sign a confidentiality agreement Closed toed shoes are required Follow dress code as outlined by the Volunteer Manager

Training & Supervision:

Meet with the Volunteer Manager to review the position requirements Have a trial run with a staff or another volunteer Engage in a tour of the Cambridge Food Bank to gain knowledge and understanding about the programs, mission, and vision of CFB Training and supervision will be ongoing and provided by the Food Procurement and Logistics Manager in collaboration with the Volunteer Manager

Goal of the Position:

To assist in diverting good food from the landfill by cooking, baking, chopping,

preserving, and repackaging bulk food products

Position Responsibilities:

• Chop, cook, bake, repackage, and otherwise preserve food

• Follow kitchen guidelines for safe food handling ensuring Public Health guidelines

are followed at all times including cleaning, sanitizing, recording cooking

temperatures, handwashing, etc.

• Ensure the kitchen is left clean and tidy which includes washing dishes, sweeping,

mopping, cleaning high-touch areas

Working Conditions:

• This is a primarily standing position with the opportunity to take sitting breaks.

• The kitchen can be hot in warm weather and there is a loud exhaust fan

Qualifications/Expectations:

• Maintain a positive demeanor in a busy work atmosphere

• Previous kitchen experience is an asset but not required

Goal of the Position: 

To offer a welcoming environment that is compassionate and equitable while providing food bank participants with an individual shopping experience. 

Position Responsibilities:  

Greet participants in a warm and friendly manner  Assist people shopping in the Community Pantry by explaining what options are available for them/their family  Adapt the selection for special diets, such as vegetarian people, have food allergies, culture requirements, or religious dietary restrictions  Stock shelves, fridge, freezer, produce and baked goods  Advise the Community Pantry Coordinator when food items are running low and need to be replenished   When necessary, assist participants with taking groceries to their vehicle  Assist in keeping the Community Pantry room clean and organized which may include cleaning shelves, cans, floors, fridges, and freezers 

Working Conditions:  

There is a strong likelihood that you will encounter people with compromised mental health  This is a physically challenging position that requires standing, walking, and bending for the entire shift  This is a busy and sometimes loud environment with many people talking and moving in a small space 

Qualifications:  

Ability to maintain a positive demeanor in a busy work atmosphere   Ability to lift up to 15 pounds  Knowledge of ASL or other languages is a definite asset 

Other Requirements: 

Closed-toed shoes are required

Engage in a tour of the Cambridge Food Bank to gain knowledge and understanding about the programs, mission, and vision of CFB  Training and supervision will be ongoing and provided by the Community Pantry Coordinator in collaboration with the Volunteer Manager

Planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting locally-grown food

This position requires standing, bending, and some lifting Exposure to heat & sun during the summer months

Qualifications:

Knowledge of sustainable garden practices is an asset but not required

Other Requirements:

Closed-toed shoes are required, hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are highly recommended
